The purpose of this study is to clarify how awareness of weight loss among female university students leads to action , and what barriers exist when they fail to take action. Based on the author's own experience of the strong desire to lose weight and the difficulty of taking action , the mechanism will be examined from the perspective of psychological and social factors. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight female college students in their fourth year of college in order to clarify the reasons why female college students want to change their body shape and the factors that prevent their awareness of wanting to lose weight from leading to action. The author asked about lifestyle habits , body shape awareness , dieting experience , and the influence of social networking services and surroundings , and aimed to understand the gap between dieting awareness and behavior. The results revealed that the diet consciousness of female university students is influenced by multiple factors such as appearance evaluation , SNS comparisons , living environment , and past experiences , and that unstable motivation , living environment , choice of extreme methods , and financial constraints are major barriers to taking action. Successful students were characterized by the fact that they chose methods that were sustainable , such as setting reasonable goals and engaging in natural physical activity. These results indicate that the dieting behavior of female university students is formed and sustained not only by individual will but also under the influence of multilayered psychological and social factors. |
