タイトルWeddings as a Social Recognition of Marriage in Japan -The Ideal and Reality of Late Adolescence-
内容 In late nineteenth century Japan , submitting a marriage registration and holding a wedding ceremony became the two pillars of social recognition of marriage. However , in recent years there has been a significant change in customs and awareness surrounding wedding ceremony and marriage. Since weddings have long been central to the social approval of marriage , this change may be a sign of a change in the social approval of marriage. This paper focuses on awareness of wedding ceremonies and explores the causes of their decline. Results shows that , behind the diversification and flexibility of ideas regarding weddings , there was a way of thinking that focuses on and emphasizes individuals. In addition , existing family structures and views on marriage no longer determine the marriage decisions of younger generations. Since this survey focused on university students , there is a possibility that expressed opinions may be idealistic. As for a future challenge , I would like to investigate the conscious of social approval in marriage and future trends among a wider age range.
講評 Fewer Japanese are choosing marriage , and of those that do , even fewer are choosing to hold a wedding ceremony. In this insightful study , she explores the history behind these numbers and concludes that a shift in cultural values—prioritizing the happiness and convenience of the couple over the traditions and welfare of the community—best explains the trend. At the same time , she shows that unmarried university students would prefer to marry with a wedding ceremony in numbers greater than they will statistically choose to do. This disconnect between youthful ideals and later choices points to a value shift that needs further exploring.
