Young children love a good story. Teenagers will stay up late in the evening to read manga. People of all ages will spend hours watching online programming or a Hollywood film. If we intrinsically know the appeal of a good story , why is it that curricula so rarely incorporate storytelling? She convincingly argues that teachers should use storytelling , and that it is particularly effective in the field of nature study or environmental education. Whereas the traditional approach to environmental education is largely information-oriented , storytelling has the potential to create emotional bonds , connecting young people to nature on a deeper level. With the current environmental crisis , her approach is much needed. |
