This study aims to compare the educational content of
the "Japan Annexation of Korea" in Japanese and Korean history textbooks to enhance understanding and strengthen friendly relations between the two countries. Japanese textbooks tend to explain historical events succinctly and factually , while Korean textbooks emphasize a more ethnic perspective , providing detailed descriptions of specific cases and backgrounds. Furthermore , Japanese textbooks adopt neutral language , whereas Korean textbooks highlight emotional aspects such as "passion for independence" and "pride in ancestors." The study's findings reveal that Japanese textbooks could benefit from incorporating emotional perspectives to better convey the significance and societal impact of historical events. By integrating the emotions and viewpoints of people from the past , Japanese education can offer students opportunities to think critically about history , moving beyond memorizing facts. This research underscores the importance of mutual understanding in history education and contributes to building a foundation for future Japan-Korea relations. |
